LATER, LYING in the circle of Tim’s arms, surrounded by his strong body, his soft skin, and callused hands, Eric felt almost as good as he had with Tim’s lips wrapped around his cock. Maybe better, actually, once he thought about it. If he were to be honest with himself—regardless of how scary that was—Eric had never felt as wonderful as he did in Tim’s adorable little cottage. He’d never felt as close to another person. Except Nathan and Jewell, but in a very different way.

Tim held him tightly with an arm around his shoulders while his other hand caressed Eric’s skin. He drew his palm up Eric’s arm and across his collarbone, lazily tracing the lines of his body, up to the scar under his chin.

Eric pulled away just enough to move that scar from Tim’s reach.

“Does it hurt?”

“Only my pride. I’m surprised I have so much of it, really.”

“I like it.”

Eric wondered why, but he couldn’t come up with an answer that made sense. “Does it make me look tough?”

“Tough really isn’t your thing.”

“Remind you not to jump into an angry sea after an idiot?”

“No. It reminds me not to put things off. Not to wait to—it’s been a long time, but I….”

“How? I mean….” Eric sighed, then turned around in Tim’s embrace. He traced the line of Tim’s jaw and drew a fingertip down the slope of his perfect nose. “How can it have been a long time? You’re so….”

Tim shrugged, averting his gaze. “After I was outed, it felt like everyone was watching me. I just couldn’t….”

“So, why can you now?”

Tim met his eyes after a moment’s effort. His fingers lightly brushed Eric’s cheek. “I had to.”

“Oh” was all Eric could say. But he felt… more. More than he’d ever thought possible.

The shivery feeling of knowing he was living a life-changing moment, like he’d read in books and seen in movies all his life? That was real.

The goose bumps? Real.

The giddy feeling of being swept away by the joy of lying entwined with The One? Real.

The way a fictional character knows he’s falling, and that the other guy is falling too? Real.

Eric realized it was all gloriously, fabulously real. As real as the solid body beside him, the smooth skin warming his.

Oh. Em. Gee.

He couldn’t bring himself to say the words, to tell Tim his epiphany. Eric hoped he could eventually, and sooner rather than later. For the moment, however, he wasn’t ready to open himself up to the magnitude of pain he would experience if his problem was a deal-breaker. Again. The relief Eric felt when Tim rescued him from himself—again—would’ve been crippling if not for the silky heat of Tim’s lips, the tender devotion in his touch.
